FGM/C Reduction

Through our targeted advocacy and community outreach and working directly with girls at risk of violence and abuse, A Girl At A Time Sierra Leone has contributed to a significant reduction in the prevalence of FGM/C in several communities. For example, in the past five years, our efforts have helped raise awarenessin in targeted in Bo Town in Southern and Kenema in Eastern Province in Sierra Leone.

Legislative Change

As a member of the Forum Against Harmful Practice (FAHP) coalition and the Not In My Name network in Sierra Leone A Girl At A Time and other member organizations have played a pivotal role in influencing local policy changes, leading to the enactment of stricter laws against gender-based violence and harmful practices.

In 2024, their advocacy contributed to a call on Sierra Leone to introduce a law banning FGM.

In 2020 with our partners Reverend Martha Chigozie (Thorough Empowerment, Education and Development for Women and Girls in Africa) we concluded a successful conference themed “A Collaborative Response to Sexual Gender Based Violence by Faith Leaders."

The event was an inclusive dialogue around solutions on tackling SGBV including FGM, child marriage, modern day slavery and exploitation with faith leaders , communities and international colleagues etc
